Now the beginner courses are in full swing, we're welcoming lots of new members at the Club. Please make sure you say "hello" to anyone looking a bit bewildered, and if you can't take them out for a paddle yourself then please introduce them to someone going on the regular paddle so they've got a friendly face to look for! All the beginner course graduates can all paddle, so they don't need a coach to look after them - they just need someone to keep an eye on them for the first week or two while they get to know people. Thanks all!
We're heading off to the lovely river Tryweryn next weekend (6-8th July) next weekend. If you're interested in paddling some whitewater, then drop Paul H a line for a chat - we'll be running a couple of easier sections of the river for part of the day so it's a good introduction.
A couple of our paddlers have had stones thrown at them in the area of Tovil. We have notified the police, but please be aware when paddling in this area. Please let us know if you've had any incidents yourself in the last month or two, and do tell us if it happens to you over the summer.
This year’s Marathon was a wonderful success. This was only possible because of the support of club members and their families and friends. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to the event. This included the IT team, those who provided safety cover on the water, the catering team, time keepers, turn marshals, photographers and general support for this important event in the club’s calendar. A huge well done to those members who raced for the club. We had some really good results. The additional assessment race for GB Team selection created more work for our volunteers but with a huge amount of generosity of time and effort they rose to the challenge with enthusiasm and good spirits. Once again a huge thank you to all those who gave up their time in whatever capacity on the day and in preparation for the day. Brian Williams Chairman
Come paddling with us! This Wednesday, 6pm - only a couple of spaces remaining on this midweek beginner course!
On this day in 1884, the world's first roller coaster opened. Kayaking can be a roller coaster ride, especially if you don't practice your capsizes, braces and rolls at the pool session!
We're running our Summer Kids Club again this year, and we need YOUR HELP to spread the word to the kids of Maidstone! Please share this post on your social media of choice, and print out the attached poster and put it up somewhere - work, school, cubs, community centre! And if you're able to help out on one or two of the sessions, please do drop me a line - they're a lot of fun :-)
Many thanks to Reece for these ones:
