Have you been paddling this summer? National races, Alpine adventures, canal cruises, seaside day trips. Maybe you've been on one of Annie's next-step paddles, or tried a new boat for the first time. Whatever you've been doing, tell us about it! The newsletter is only fun if you share your thoughts with us - and the deadline is fast approaching!
We need to know by Tuesday 20th August if you want to come on the fabulous Intro to Whitewater weekend on the lovely river Dee! This is a gentle and fully-supported intro to the fun stuff over the weekend of 7th & 8th September - we had a load of fun last year and this year is going to be even better! Please book online here now - we can't take late-notice bookings on this one!
PS - there's also an Improvers Weekend running alongside if you want to brush up on your skills and confidence before the winter season.
The new Explore Award is here! British Canoeing has replaced the old 2* course with this new Explore Award, emphasising independence and exploration, giving you the skills you need to be a confident paddler. This is the next step from the Beginner Courses, and is suitable for anyone who's done their 1*, Discover Award, or Beginner Course. The course runs over 2 days, on September 21st and October 5th, and is free to members - sign up here!
Saturday 27th July Maidstone River Festival: If you receive a parking ticket for this date please go into Freedom Fitness and they will cancel the ticket as the cameras were supposed to be turned off for this day and they had not been. I am sorting out the issue as we speak.
We've still got spaces on our beginner course this Saturday - get in quick, the weather's going to be lovely!
Water flows downhill. Sometimes the "down" bit is steeper than at other times! Learn the basics of moving water paddling with Mary (Level 3 & WW coach) on the gentle flows at Chartham, August 17th. If you're venturing further afield where there might be weirs, riffles, chutes and other features, it's good to get the basics in place to deal with them calmly and in control.
Suitable for paddlers of 2* / Explore Award standard and above. Contact Mary for details.
For those that missed Annie's star turn on the British Canoeing website earlier this month ...
British Canoeing have launched some new paddle trails in the heart of the Big Smoke which are worth a look. You've always been able to kayak on London's canals and waterways, but it's great to have these handy trail maps & guides - check them out while the weather's hot!
