The Paddlesport Safety & Rescue Course - PSRC - is the replacement for the old FSRT course.
The course will give you a toolbox of rescue techniques to solve common problems encountered in the Sheltered Water environment and to paddle safely with others in our local waters. There will be plenty of time to practice techniques such as contact & tows, self rescues, deepwater rescues, rescuing a swimmer, helping entrapped paddlers, and much more. There is more information (including a handy video & course documents) on the British Canoeing Awarding Body website here.
This course runs over 3 weeks, and you need to attend all sessions. It is suitable for paddlers of at least Explore Award level, and can be taken in any craft (canoe, kayak, sit-on-top, SUP). If you're thinking of doing it in a racing boat, please drop me a line first so we can make it work for you.
We will be wet! Most of the time will be spent on or in the water, so please dress appropriately - unless it's particularly warm, 2 hours in the water will feel like a long time without a wetsuit, drysuit, or other suitable clothing! Again, please drop me a line if you're not sure.
This course is a pre-requisite for Paddlesport Instructor and many other coaching & leadership qualifications, as well as making you a popular and useful group member!
