 We are Maidstone Canoe Club

 We sea kayak.

 We race.

 We are Maidstone Canoe Club.

 We mess about in boats.

 We run rivers.

Club Closed

In light of the latest advice from British Canoeing and the Environment Agency, we will have to abide by their guidance and cease all paddle sport activity until advised otherwise.

I would advise anybody thinking of ignoring this directive to reconsider as doing so would bring the club into disrepute.  I thank you for your cooperation in this matter.  Hopefully the current situation will pass sooner rather than later and we can all go back to enjoying our sport.  The most important thing is to stay safe and look after yourselves and your families and to keep up-to-date with current government advice.

Take care,
Brian Williams
Chairman

Advice from the Environment Agency

Most of this is aimed at powerboaters and liveaboards, but attached here for interest.

April & May Beginner Courses - Postponed

With regret, we've decided to postpone all beginner courses that were scheduled to take place in April and May.  We hope to re-schedule these courses for later in the year, and hope to be able to paddle with you over the summer.  If you had a space booked on these courses, you should have received a cancellation email this morning.  All payments are being refunded - this may take a few days to come through to your account.

We hope to paddle with you in happier times.

Club conference - cancelled

Even more disappointing than the Six Nations postponement, even worse than cancelling the footie - this Tuesday's British Canoeing Club Conference has also fallen foul of COVID-19 and is going to be rescheduled later this year.  On a more serious note, this was an important opportunity for paddlers in the south east to give their input on BCs plans for the future; hopefully they will delay implementation of any changes until this can happen.

Did you know? Mailing lists

AGM Friday

It's the AGM this Friday, 13th March at 7pm.  What's happening with the new building?  Who will be on next year's committee?  What shiny new kit did we buy last year?  And will there be any cake?

Answers to all this and more will be revealed - see you there!

Stour Trip Sunday - Cancelled

Due to high flows, Sunday's trip on the Stour has been cancelled.

Leeds Castle Sports Fest

This year Leeds Castle will not be running the Triathlon as in previous years. A Sports Fest weekend now takes it's place across 27th and 28th June, and we have been invited to be a part of it.

Maidstone Canoe club have been asked to provide safety cover for a Juniors Aquathon running from 14:00 - 16:00hrs on Saturday 27th June. Those who have previosly been involved may have provided cover for the junior races and know how much this is appreciated.

Outside the time of the race, we have been invited to run 'Come and try' sessions on the moat. This will give anyone taking part a good deal more paddling time than in previous years and will hopefully help to promote the club in a much greater way than we have been able to during the triathlons.

If you are able to help out on either, or both days, Please contact: mark.harris@maidstonecanoeclub.net
