Some Good News

After the second-to-last of the Winter Series marathon races we are doing well as a club.
At Leighton Buzzard Mick & Brian came 3rd overall and 2nd in the Super Vets (both over 50).  Bryn & Paul Curtis came 4th overall and 2nd in the Vets.  Chris and Steve came 8th overall and were the 3rd Vet team home out of 16 K2s
In the series overall, with only Lee Marathon to go, Mick and Brian should finish as the 1st SuperVet team and probably 3rd or 2nd overall.  Bryn and Paul are lying 5th overall and 2nd in the Vets.
We are really getting back into being a great race team, with a possible 4 K2s racing next week

Marathon - Help Needed

This year, for the first time ever, the Maidstone Marathon will be one of the Team GB Selection races - the best paddlers in the country will be competing for a spot on Team GB!  We need your help on 10th June to make this run smoothly - race marshalls, time keepers, help checking in, etc.  Please contact Bryn Price if you're able to help the Club for this nationally-important event.

Bacon & Boats - Cooked Breakfast at the Clubhouse!

Join Lisa for a proper breakfast after the paddle this Sunday (14th Jan), all to raise money for the Born Free Foundation.  Regular paddle as usual, and then upstairs for tea, bacon, and all the trimmings - enjoy!

A Few White Water Kayaking Trips Abroad in 2018

Happy New Year everyone. The Christmas holidays are over and now is the perfect time to start planning where you are going to go kayaking this year. As Mark suggested in the Winter Newsletter; this year, why don’t you make it your New Year’s resolution to come on a kayaking trip? All the usual trips will be running, and you will be able to see them advertised on the club pages, but I am going to tell you about a couple of new trips for this year.

Ardèche Trip

The first trip is the one you will have read about in the Winter Newsletter. Richard, Bill and I will be going to the Ardèche again.

  • The dates are Saturday March 31st to Saturday April 7th, which is the first week of the Easter holidays for those of you who think in school terms.
  • We will be paddling rivers around grade 3, though this obviously depends on what is running. All we have booked so far is the Channel Tunnel crossing, so I guess we could go wherever there is water. Please get in touch if you would like more details.

Switzerland Trip

The first part of the second trip is one that is new to all of us. A group of us are heading to Switzerland for the first week of the summer holidays, and then on to France for a two-week family kayaking holiday.

  • We will be staying on a campsite in Trin in the Upper Rhine Valley from Saturday 21st to Sunday 29th July.
  • We will be paddling rivers like the Vorderrhein (easy, but including the stunning Flims Gorge, known as the Swiss Grand Canyon, and the shuttle is on a train!), also sections on the Hinterrhein, the Landquart and the Glenner. It’s all around grade 3 at summer levels, although obviously it depends on the weather when we are there.

France Trip

The second part of the second trip will be our usual family kayaking holiday.

Slovenia Trip

I am only mentioning this trip as we still have one space left in the house in Slovenia – Friday 25th May to Sunday 3rd June. It's £250 for the accommodation and transport.

If you are interested in joining us for any of these trips, please just get in touch

Saturday 13th January pool session

We have not got the van for the Saturday 13th January pool session, so if you can help take boats I would be grateful!  Please let me know - thanks!
