May is the only month with two bank holidays! Pool session tomorrow!
Despite the rain, the summer newsletter is approaching! The newsletter only works because of your amazing input - don't leave it to someone else! Tell us about your amazing new kit, about the trip you went on, the book you read, or about any other paddle-related things that the rest of us would love to know! As always, please send items to email@example.com
Nene Whitewater Trip - Sunday 21st May 2017
Bill and I will be running a trip to the white water course at Nene, next Sunday 21st May. This course offers a great introduction to moving water for those of you who have gained experience of paddling on flat water.
The course is open from 2.30pm until 6.00pm and costs £12 for adults and £9 for children. We would aim to leave the club at around 10.30am and return around 9.00pm. Richard has kindly offered to transport kayaks to the course and Bill and I are happy to take some paddlers in our van (both subject to a contribution to fuel.)
To paddle independently at Nene, you are required to be of 3 star standard. If you are not at this level, Bill and I are happy to sign you on as part of a coached group. It is easy to access the course at any point, so paddlers new to moving water can get on towards the end of the course, where it is easier, and build up to running the whole course (or stay on the easier section if that is what you feel happiest with.)
In order to paddle on the course, you will need to either:
Either way you need to fill in a Medical Consent form and a risk form, downloadable here: FORMS
We know that this is short notice, but we didn't want to offer the trip until we were sure that we could offer transport. You will need to email me: firstname.lastname@example.org or sign up on the Maidstone Canoe Club Paddlers Facebook page. Please ask if you have any questions or if you want to know whether this trip is suitable for you. You don't have to have been on moving water before, but you do need to have worn a spraydeck before and be confident of pulling your deck and swimming down the course if you capsize. I would point out though, that you can stand up in most of the course.
Just a reminder that our Open Afternoon will be next Saturday 20th May from 1pm until 4pm. Thank you to everyone who has already offered to help.We still need people to bake cakes, to help to sell refreshments, to help fit boats and buoyancy aids and to do the paperwork and generally promote the club.
If you are able to help, I plan to get to the club around 11am on Saturday morning to set up. Helpers will be welcome at any point, whether you can stay for the whole event, or just give an hour or two. It's all appreciated.
Finally, please tell your friends and family about the event. If you are able to, please print off a poster and put it up somewhere where people can see it. Point out that it's free and it's fun!
See you there.
If everyone could please print out a copy of the poster and put it up at work, school, etc. that would be fabulous - thanks!
